REMAIN INDEPENDENT AND ACTIVE!

The Older Individuals with Blindness Program, established in 1988, provides support, resources, and advocacy to assist Boulder, Broomfield, Adams and Jefferson County residents 55 and older with vision impairments or blindness to remain independent in their chosen place of residence.

The peer groups and activities offered by this program have been tremendously successful in connecting participants with resources available in the community to assist them in maintaining their individual level of independence. This program promotes and encourages individuals to learn new skills that allow the individual experiencing low vision or blindness to remain as independent as they choose to be.

All services are free.

Activities/services include:

  • Peer support group meetings
  • Speakers at peer support group meetings, e.g., eye specialists, assistive device representatives, blind or low vision community members.
  • Public transit use training
  • Referrals - visual screening services
  • Social activities
  • Independent living skills training
  • Transportation to group activities
  • Home visits to assist with low tech home modification

Peer support: Weekly meetings at various locations for support, social activities, and information and referral, arranging for speakers or researching topics for discussion suggested by group members.
