Our Advocates work with individuals who encounter difficulties in the pursuit of independent living.
Independent Living Program
Consumers who are transitioning from custodial care into the community, attend daily classes to learn independent living skills.
Peer Support
Several cross-disability groups meet regularly with a staff facilitator to share information and experiences.
Personal Assistance Services
Consumers are provided assistance with activities of daily living such as transferring, bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. Nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy are available as skilled care services.
Low Vision Seniors
This program is funded by the state through the Older Individuals who are Blind
(OIB) grant and provides seniors with resource information, life skills training, and support groups.
AfterSchool Club
Young people with disabilities between the ages of 13 and 21 gather weekly for lively discussions and hands-on workshops that will prepare them to live independently as adults.
Nursing Facilities Transition Project
CPWD administers this statewide federally funded program that helps individuals move from institutions into the community.
Section 8 Housing Vouchers
These vouchers from Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allow low-income people with disabilities to live affordably in scattered site housing.
